Background: In the early 1970s, the American Express Company commissioned Wood to paint a series of six U.S. National Parks. They were sold as limited edition serigraphs only to cardholders, supervised and approved by Wood, making these serigraphs the only truly limited editions of Wood's work. Only 1000 of each were produced. (Note: a Serigraph is a silk-screened image. Because it's such a labor-intensive process to create, original serigraphs are done in low edition sizes. When an edition is complete, the master plate is destroyed and no more are made.)
