Has been in dry storage for a number of years. Fully functional. Complete with motor, side guide and clamp, blade guard. Blade included. Dimensions: W - 32 in. H - 40 in. L - 36 in. What is a Hammond Trim-O-Saw? Hammond saws are legendary. They were originally manufactured by Hammond Machine Co. Kalamazoo, MI, U.S.A. in the 1930s-50s The company's higher end models were known as "Gliders" because the left side of the table was mounted on ball-bearings. Pushing the table forward to cut the stock (wood or metal) was very easy and smooth. The Ben Franklin model, was a lower-priced version of the Glider. While the table is not on ball-bearings, the Ben Franklin model is able to achieve similar results to the Glider by using a mitre that slides in a precision-cut groove. Stock is held by by the mitre mechanism that can be adjusted in very precise increments. All Hammond saws were meticulously designed and manufactured to very fine tolerances for cutting lines of lead type used in the letterpress printing industry. After the letterpress printing technology was subsumed by offset printing technologies in the 1980s, Hammond saws were sought after by professional and hobbyist woodworkers. Today, these saws are quite rare. While they are old, they are built to standards seldom seen today. The saws do have several special features that you must be aware of. - The primary attraction of the Hammond Trim-O-Saw is the sliding mitre and adjustment gauge which allows for highly precise, safe cuts. - The Ben Franklin model has a sliding mitre that rides in a slot similar to a traditional table saw miter-guage system. The table does not slide on ball-bearings like very rare "Hammond Glider" model. However, this saw is also very precise and is an absolute pleasure to use. - An easy-to-use clamping device (removable) can be used to hold pieces of wood as small as 1/4" square for safe precision cutting. Removable so that larger pieces can be sawn. - The Micro-adjusable side gauge can give you a reproducible precision cut within 1/72 of an inch - easily, although it is capable of giving you 1/144" of an inch accuracy as well. - The measurement rulers on this Hammond Trim-O-Saw are graduated using the measurement system common in letterpress printing: the pica. Graduations for adjusting the fence are in increments called pica. 6 Pica= approx 1 inch. You'll have to make your own measurement conversions from picas to inches or centimeters when you want to make precision cuts. - With the sliding table slid all the way back, the saw can accommodate wood pieces almost 19" at full blade height. This is a substantial amount for such a small machine. - The largest blade that can be fit onto a glider is 7 1/4" blade. A 7 1/4" blades protrudes about 1 3/4" from the table. Note: This saw is not a contractor saw suitable for construction. Rather it is a high precision saw for smaller pieces of wood. The Hammond Trim-O-Saw is built according to 1940s industrial standards and thus is extremely robust and of outstanding quality. Already 68 years old, you can easily expect this saw to run for another 100 years. Hammond Gliders are very difficult to find. Price is not negotiable. Sold as-is. No returns. I check and reply to ads only after 7pm once per day. --------------------- I filmed these videos of my father operating and explaining the function of the saw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-BrvgOPLcU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkkkwEU39B8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvzWLniMK98 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E4FYB4k5Hg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmpXavXDj4E Read more about this saw online: http://excelsiorpress.org/HammondGliderTrimSaws/ http://www.machinejunkie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=165
